the creative process. 

Carvel Creative is a company built around the act of making. Their work turns ambitious ideas into physical realities, bridging art, fabrication, design and the built worlds of film, television and public installation. For this piece, they asked us to create something that could act as both an internal spark and an outward expression of their creative spirit. Something less literal than a traditional brand film, and more like a visual poem about what it means to make.

From the beginning, the film was approached as an abstract visualization of the creative process. The vast openness of an empty canvas. The uncertainty of a first idea. The force required to move mountains, shape raw material and push through invisible barriers. Working in black and white allowed us to strip the piece back to its essentials: light, form, texture, movement and contrast. Without colour, every frame became more elemental, placing the emphasis on atmosphere, composition and the physicality of creation.

THE PROCESS

The piece became a meditation on the tension between imagination and execution. Ideas begin as something intangible, almost impossible to hold, before they are tested, shaped, broken apart and rebuilt. That transformation felt closely tied to Carvel’s world, where creative ambition meets material knowledge, craftsmanship and problem solving. We wanted the film to feel raw and cinematic, but also purposeful — a tribute to the unseen labour behind bringing something new into the world.
